Photographing bald eagles perched on icebergs provides a visually striking contrast to their normal hang-out in the dense, rich-green Sitka spruce forest of the Tongass National Forest. Alaska and Canada are the only two places in the world to witness this phenomenon. One of the best and most accessible places in Alaska to go to is Holkham Bay in Tracy Arm in late May and early June. Icebergs get stuck on the terminal moraine, rock and rubble pile deposited at a glacier’s furthest advance, ...

Is there anyone who does not love the deep blue colors of glacier ice? In this image a small iceberg floats next to a larger iceberg, showing some of the incredible shades of glacier blue. These wonderful blues come from the crystalline structure unique to glacier ice. Glacier ice is not created by water freezing, but by layers of snow compacting together over hundreds or thousands of years. Alaskan Brewing Co. Tasting Room On your way to Costco

When Juneau’s annual Public Market got cancelled due to COVID, I went looking for outdoor locations where I could sign and sell my 2021 calendars. The first place that came to mind was the Griz Bar, Juneau’s newest sensation and an open-air bar. Also known as the Alaska Grizzly Bar, the Griz opened this past summer and is located across from the downtown library and parking garage. I approached Jake Haas, one of the owners and a long-time family friend, about signing at the Griz Bar during ...
