Sunrise, Mt Troy, Juneau, Alaska #3383

Dec 21, 2020

Today is Monday, December 21, and the day of the winter solstice. Juneau will receive about 6 hours and 22 minutes of daylight. It is the shortest day of year. Ever since the summer solstice last June, when we were bathed in sunlight for over 18 hours, daylight has been slowly fading away and our world has been getting darker and colder. Alaskans have traditionally celebrated the returning light with bonfires and fireworks as we march again toward the summer solstice. This is my son, Owen, watching the sunrise on the backside of Mt Troy in gusting winds. This photo illustrates the month of February in my Juneau 2021 Calendar.  My 2021 Juneau and Alaska Calendars can also be ordered at markkelley.com or purchased locally at Hearthside Books, Juneau Artist Gallery, Ben Franklin Variety Store, Alaskan Brewing Tasting Room, Super Bear IGA, Foodland IGA and the Bears Lair.
