The view from Dry Bay encompasses the Alsek Glacier in the far left to Mount Fairweather on the far right all located in Glacier Bay National Park. Mt. Faireather towers over the park at 15,320 feet and is only 15 miles from the coast, rising abruptly from the Pacific Ocean at an average of 1,000 feet per mile. I shot the photo on Velvia film with a Nikon F/5 camera and a 20-35mm F/28 zoom lens with a polarizing filter.-Mark Kelley

Two of the three boys in this photo are my sons, Owen and Gabe, and the third boy is my nephew, Brian, from Michigan. This photo was taken during a trip to Glacier Bay in the summer of 1997. Before coming to Alaska, Brian had only caught blue gills, perch and bass. Brian's first fish in Alaska was a chicken halibut (a 5 to 10 pound fish that we consider too small to keep), and we told him he had to release it. Fields of fireweed grow at Brotherhood Park, Juneau, Alaska – Image 2023

Mendenhall Glacier is the backdrop for the Brotherhood Park meadow. Fields of fireweed fill the meadow from July through early August. All summer the meadow blooms with wild flowers first starting with wild irises and chocolate liies, and then comes arctic cotton and Indian rhubarb and finally ending with fireweed. I shot this on Fuji 50 film on a Nikon F-4 with a 80-200 F/2.8 zoom lens with a polarizing filter-Mark Kelley

In her family-built Guatavus home, Adrienne pumps a glass of water fom the old-fashioned hand pump. It is the family's only way to get water in the kitchen. I shot this picture using natural light on Velvia film with a Nikon F5 camera and a 35-70mm F/2.8 zoom lens.-Mark Kelley

Purple lilacs, mountain ash and red hawthorne flowers surround the totem outside the Juneau-Douglas City Museum in downtown Juneau. Every June there is about a week's time when the three different flowers reach their peak blooms. I shot this with a 300mm lens on Fuji 50 film with a Nikon F3 camera.-Mark Kelley

An October rainbow frames the heart of Juneau's downtown. Juneau is Alaska's capital and the state's third largest city with a population of a little over 30,000 people. Rainy days charactererize autumn weathe in Juneau. October is the wettest month of the year, averaging 7 to 8 inches of precipitation. I photographed this scene with a Nikon F/4 camera equiped with a 35-70mm F/2.8 lens with a polarizing filter on Velvia film.-Mark Kelley
