Hoary Marmot, Glacier Bay National Park, Alaska – Image 2334

Most marmots have brown fur. This is the first and only black marmot I have ever seen. This guy was in a very remote part of Glacier Bay National Park, and I was surprised how friendly he was. I would never expect to get this close to a wild animal. This photo illustrates the month of April in my 2004 Southeast Alaska Calendar and can be found in my book on Glacier Bay. Camera: Nikor F5, Lens: 80-200 f/2.8 Nikkor, Film:35mm Fuji Velvia slide film-Mark Kelley

We have had the sunniest fall that I can remember. The weather in October has been gorgeous. I shot this photo many years ago in early September, but I am fairly sure that is what the course would look like now. This photo illustrates the month of May in my 2004 Southeast Alaska Calendar and was used in my book on Glacier Bay. Camera: Nikon F5, Lens: 300 f/4 Nikkor polarized, Film: 35mm Fuji Velvia slide film-Mark Kelley
