Two bald eagles sit in popular trees along the banks of the Chilkat River. Bald eagles collect along the Chilkat River by the thousands every November and December. Underwater hot water springs keeps the river open into the winter which in turn supports a late salmon run. As food gets scarce and the interior rivers freeze up, the eagles collect in Haines to feast on these salmon. This photo illustrates the month of December in my 2006 Southeast Alaska calendar. A rainbow blasts over the tops of the aspen and birch trees in full autumn regalia along the hillside of Chena Hot Springs Road. Camera: Nikon F/5, Lens: 80-200mm f/2.8 polarized, Film 35mm Velvia slide film-Mark Kelley

The summer of 2004 was one of the hottest summers on record for Juneau. The Mendenhall Glacier retreated over 600 feet leaving huge icebergs in its retreat. Only about 10% of the iceberg is visible above the water which means that these are huge icebergs. This photo illustrates the month of September in my 2006 Juneau Alaska Calendar. Camera: Nikon F/5, Lens: 20-35mm f/2.8 polarized, Film 35mm Velvia slide film-Mark Kelley

Whale watching in the Juneau, Alaska area is some of the best in the world. Starting with the return of the humpbacks from their migration to Hawaii in May and June, the whales numbers and activities build through the summer with mid-July to mid-September being the height of the whale watching season. This photo illustrates the month of August in my 2006 Juneau Alaska calendar and page 37 in my book, Alaskas Watchable Whales. Camera: Nikon F/5, Lens: 35-70mm f/2.8, Film 35mm Velvia ...

Photographing this incredible landscape is easy and has Juneaus most popular and accessible photo points. This photo is taken from a parking lot just off the Egan Highway about 10 miles from downtown Juneau. This photo illustrates the month of July in my 2006 Juneau Alaska calendar. Camera: Nikon F/5, Lens: 35-70mm f/2.8, Film 35mm Velvia slide film-Mark Kelley

A young deer moves through the forest along the beachs edge. I was on the beach shooting into the forest. The deer was photographed in the late evening light giving this photo its warm, rich feel. This photo illustrates the month of October in my 2006 Southeast Alaska calendar. Camera: Nikon F/5, Lens: 300mm f/4, Film 35mm Velvia slide film-Mark Kelley
