Glacier Bay National Park – Image 2410

One of my favorite camping spots in Alaska. Up at sunrise, my friend, Monte, checks out the views. Glacier Bay National Park is huge marine park, and one of the only times to get flat calm waters to shoot reflections is the first light of the day. In May, that means around 5am. This photo appears in my book on Glacier Bay National Park. Camera: Nikon F5, Lens: 80-200mm f/2.8 Nikkor, Film:35mm Velvia (35mm color slide film).-Mark Kelley

Black Bear, Glacier Bay National Park, Alaska – Image 2408

A black bear eats sedges along the tide line in Glacier Bear National Park. Coming out of hibernation, bears subsist on the grasses and sedges growing at tide line and the forest edge. I photographed this bear from a skiff. I am not very bear brave and prefer to photograph the bruins from a boat as they feed at high tide. This photo appears in my book on Glacier Bay National Park. Haines, Alaska – Image 2407

The jagged Catheral peaks of the Chilkat Mountains provide a pictureque backdrop for the town of Haines, located at the top of Alaska's Panhandle. In Haines, the Alaska State Ferry meets the Alaska Highway via the Haines Cut Off. I think of area around Haines as one of the most beautiful settings for a town in all of Alaska. The Holy Resurrection Russian Orthodox Church is the third to be built on this site in Kodiak. The original church, built in 1796, was the first Russian Orthodox Church built in North America and burned down. The Russian colonization of the kodiak Island archipelago began in the mid-1700's. I shot this photo for a book published on the Alaska Ferry System that goes out to Kodiak and beyond. Camera: Nikon F4, Lens: 35-70mm f/2.8 Nikkor (polarized), Film: 35mm Velvia (35mm color slide ...

Kodiak, Alaska – Image 2405

Kodiak's small boat harbor is located near downtown. Kodiak is the largest island in Alaska at 3,670 square miles and the second largest island in the USA after the Big Island of Hawaii. I shot this photo for a book published on the Alaska Ferry System that goes out to Kodaik and beyond.
