Tracy Arm is just great and I cannot stop singing its praises. If someone just had one day to visit Alaska I would send them to Tracy Arm. I shot this image of a mom and cub black bear on the same trip I shot the previous posting of the eagle on the iceberg. No more needs to be said…just go there. I almost always go to Tracy Arm on the Adventure Bound’s day long trip captained by Steve Webber. Thanks for visiting. I have tried to go back every year since then and often have been able to get in multiple trips per year. I love this place and almost always come home with a great photo. My favorite time of year is mid-May through June. It is early in the season and animals are more visible. The salmon have not returned yet; the ...

If you are flying with Alaska Airlines this month, check out their May in-flight magazine. Each year the May edition features the winners of the Magazine’s annual photo contest. I placed first in this year’s Showcase 2016, the 24th annual photo contest. The fun news is that the first place prize is two round-trip, first class tickets to anywhere they fly…hmm, Costa Rica or Hawaii, tough decisions! I call this photo “OMG Glacier Calve”: As the Johns Hopkins Glacier calves, a kayaker ...

The color of this sunset is unbelievable, and believe me, it was really this good when I shot this photo on March 30. With zero hocus pocus or image enhancements, this is the real deal. The heavens provided all the magic. Enjoy. Thank you for visiting. - Camera: Nikon D800, Lens: Nikkor 24-120mm F/4 digital capture - ©Mark Kelley

Last night I went to bed with my world covered in clouds. But I knew the northern light predictions were calling for strong aurora displays. I happened to wake around 3 am and looked out my bedroom window to a star-filled sky. I checked three aurora websites showing current and strong aurora activity. I quickly dressed and got my camera bag. I headed to Auke Lake and just started shooting. This strong display over the lake had been going on for a while but lasted for just three frames ...
