Skating at Twin Lakes, Juneau, Alaska – Image 2232

Until last Sunday, the weather in Juneau was cold and clear for just over a week. The skaters and hockey players were out in force. This photo of the skating activity on Twin Lakes was taken in March of 2000 during a similar clear period. This photo illustrates the month of February in the 2002 Juneau Alaska Calendar. Camera: Nikon F5, Lens: 80-200mm f/2.8 Nikkor, film: 35mm Fuji Velvia-Mark Kelly

Geese, Mendenhall Glacier, Juneau – Image 2231

Canadian geese fly in formation past the Mendenhall Glacier and surrounding mountains. The geese spend much of the winter eating on the Mendenhall Golfcourse. I was lucky to get them to flush in front of the glacier and luckier still to get them all to seperate. This photo illustrates the month of November in the 2002 Juneau Alaska Calendar. Camera: Nikon F5, Lens: 35-70mm zoom f/2.8 Nikkor, film: 35mm Fuji velvia.-Mark Kelley

Raft by Iceberg, Alsek Bay, Glacier Bay National Park, Alaska – Image 2230

The Alsek River flows by the Alsek Glacier carving off the largest icebergs in Glacier Bay National Park. I shot this photo in 1981 on my first and only trip down the river. This photo illustrates the month of November in the 2002 Southeast Alaska Calendar. Camera: OM-1, Lens: 135mm f/2.8, Film: Kodchrome 64.-Mark Kelley

Bald Eagle, Southeast Alaska – Image 2229

I photographed this bald eagle from my lund skiff on the back side of Douglas Island. I used 35mm Velvia film and cropped this photo vertically from the horizontal image. This photo illustrates the cover of my 2002 Southeast Alaska calendar. Camera: Nikon F/5, Lens: 300mm f/4.5 Nikkor, film: 35mm fuji Velvia.-Mark Kelley
Auke Lake and Mendenhall Glacier, Juneau, Alaska – Image 2228

Auke Lake and Mendenhall Glacier, Juneau, Alaska – Image 2228

I shot this as a cover for the local wilderness guiding group called Alaska Discovery. After I shot this photo, the Chapel by the Lake expanded its parking lot and most of the fireweed in the foreground got paved over. Slowly, the fireweed is returning to this area. This photo illustrates the cover of the 2002 Juneau Alaska Calendar. Camera: F/2, Lens: 80-200mm f/2.8 polarized, and Film: 35mm Fuji 50-Mark Kelley

Parasailing along Mt. Roberts over Gastineau Channel, Juneau, Alaska – Image 2227

On great summer and fall days, parasailers launching from the trail to Mt. Roberts are as common as ravens or eagles cruising the air currents sweeping up from Gastineau Channel 1,800 feet below. This photo illustrates the October 2002 Juneau Alaska Calendar. Camera: Nikon F/5, Lens: Nikkor 35 to 70mm f/2.8 polarized, and Film: Fuji 35mm Velvia-Mark Kelley
