Red knots stop over in Glacier Bay on their migration to the northern parts of Alaska. Knots are not very common in Glacier Bay except during their migration. Again, my friend, Joe, was able to paddle our double kayak within shooting distance of these birds. This image illustrates the page 80 in my book on Glacier Bay National Park. Camera: Nikon F/5, Lens: 300mm f/4 Nikkor lens, Film 35mm Velvia slide film.-Mark Kelley

A western sandpiper walks the tide line looking for food in Reid Inlet, Glacier Bay National Park. I shot this photo from a two-person kayak. My good friend, Joe, was able to paddle me almost motionless within shooting range to get this photo. This image illustrates the page 81 in my book on Glacier Bay National Park. Camera: Nikon F/5, Lens: 300mm f/4 Nikkor, Film 35mm Velvia slide film-Mark Kelley

Merry ChristmasA fresh winter snow brings such a hush and quiet to the normal hustle and bustle of downtown. This photo was shot at Front and Franklin around Christmas time at about 4:30 in afternoon. This image illustrates the month of February in the 2007 Juneau Alaska calendar. Camera: Nikon F/5, Lens: 14mm f/2.8 Sigma lens, Film 35mm Velvia 100 slide film-Mark Kelley

Like everyone else in Juneau, I was fascinated by this mushroom shaped iceberg frozen into the lake. I kept photographing and photographing until I got this image. This image works for me because it shows just how big the iceberg is, and the man walking his dog in a walk-by videoing seems so nonchalant. This image illustrates the month of November in the 2007 Southeast Alaska calendar. Camera: Nikon F/5, Lens: 500mm f/4 Nikkor lens, Film 35mm Velvia 100 slide film-Mark Kelley

The frozen Mendenhall Lake is a winter play land for Juneauites. With motorized vehicles prohibited, the frozen surface provides unbelievable opportunities for skating, cross-country skiing, strolling and glacier gawking. On this day, my wife and I counted over 200 cars in the parking lot and down the access road. It seemed if everyone we knew was taking the opportunity to stroll through the icebergs frozen in the lake. This image illustrates the month of December in the 2007 Juneau ...

One of my favorite hikes is to Eagle Beach. I try to go there once a month but can not always kept this commitment to myself. I loved the pattern the retreating tide left in the sand and combined with the glorious day, I knew I had to find an image worth publishing. This image illustrates the month of March in the 2007 Juneau Alaska calendar. Camera: Nikon F/5, Lens: 35-70mm f/2.8 Nikkor lens polarized, Film 35mm Velvia 100 slide film-Mark Kelley
