Hoary marmots are related to woodchucks of the lower 48. This photo was taken up on the Mt Roberts Trail where the marmots are plentiful and friendly. This trail which is close to the Mt Roberts Tram gets plenty of human traffic. Marmots are known for their loud and high pitched whistles which are distinctive in the high country around Juneau. This season I started a line of postcards with this image being one in a line of 42 different styles. Camera: Nikon F/5, Lens: 300mm f/4 Nikkor ...

This image shows the mushers perspective of the trail returning to the Temsco Helicopters dog sled camp on the Mendenhall Glacier. Tourists going on this shore excursion actually get to drive the dog team accompanied by an experienced musher. This season I started a line of postcards with this image being one in a line of 42 different images. Camera: Nikon F/5, Lens: 35-70mm f/2.8 Nikkor lens polarized , Film 35mm Velvia 100 slide film-Mark Kelley

One of the favorite tours by the cruise ships passengers in Juneau is the trip up to the Icefield by helicopter to go dog sledding in the middle of the summer. Three helicopter companies in Juneau offer this excursion. This shot is of the Temsco Helicopters dog base on the upper reaches of the Mendenhall Glacier. This camp houses 270 dogs along with mushers and handlers that live the summer up on the ice. This season I started a line of postcards with this image being one in a line of ...

You cant see the full length of Icy Falls, but it comes out of Icefall Lake which is about 1400 feet above the water surface of the fjord. The vertical fjord wall continues 200 feet below the surface. Passenger boats can pull up within inches of the falls and put their bow in the falls, often to the delight of their soaking passengers. This image can be found on page 40 of Marks book, Alaskas Tracy Arm and Sawyer Glaciers. Nikon F/5, Lens: 35-70 mm f/2.8 Nikkor polarized, Film 35mm ...

It looks like these young girls are extremely tough and are swimming in a pond created by the very cold waters from the melting Mendenhall Glacier. In fact, this pond is very shallow and is separated from the very cold Mendenhall Lake by a small strip of land. On the warm sunny days this pond becomes very warm and swim able. I know because I have swum in this pond on just such a day. This photo illustrates the month of June in my 2007 Juneau Alaska calendar and is a postcard in my new ...

One of my favorite places to photograph is Auke Lake. Located just nine miles away from my home, almost every Juneau Calendar over the years has featured a photo from this beautiful lake. This photo illustrates the month of May in my 2007 Juneau Alaska calendar. Camera: Nikon F/5, Lens: Nikkor 35-70mm f/2.8 polarized, Film 35mm Velvia slide film-Mark Kelley
