Northern Lights blast over Mt Jumbo and downtown Douglas. I shot this photoon the drive to Mayflower Island. This evening was a great night fornorthern lights and Image 2459 was shot the same night. My exposures fornorthern lights depend on the intensity of the lights. I shoot slide filmASA 100 and vary my exposures between 30 seconds up to 2 minutes at f/2.8.Most displays work well at minute and half. This photo illustrates themonth of November in the Juneau 2007 Calendar. Camera: ...

This picture was taken near the Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau at Moose Lake, which is part of the Dredge Lakes trail system. This area is very popularwith dog walkers, mountain bikers, and hikers. It's also a great place tocatch some fall color this time of year. This picture can be also be seen inmy Juneau 2007 Calendar. Camera: Nikon F/5, Lens: 35-70mm f/2.8 Nikkor lenspolarized, Film: 35mm Velvia slide film.-Mark Kelley

The small community of Haines (population 1,800) has to have one the prettiest settings for a town anywhere in the Alaska. Haines is located at the top of Lynn Canal, about 70 ferry miles north of Juneau. The historic Port Chilkoot and the Chilkat Mountains reflect in the mirror-still waters at low tide. This season I started a line of postcards with this image being one in a line of 42 different styles. Camera: Nikon F/5, Lens: 35-70mm f/2.8 Nikkor lens polarized , Film 35mm Velvia 100 ...

A Temsco helicopter cruises over the Herbert Glacier. The Herbert Glacier is the 36 glaciers spilling out of the Rhode Island-sized Juneau Icefield. This season I started a line of postcards with this image being one in a line of 42 different styles. Camera: Nikon F/4, Lens: 35-70mm f/2.8 Nikkor lens polarized , Film 35mm Velvia 50 slide film-Mark Kelley

From far away or close-up, Magerie looks great. Her 300-foot high glacier front stands out against the black rubble covered ice face of the Grand Pacific Glacier, her northern neighbor at the top of Tarr Inlet. This season I started a line of postcards with this image being one in a line of 42 different styles. Camera: Nikon F/5, Lens: 300mm f/4 Nikkor lens, Film 35mm Velvia 50 slide film.-Mark Kelley

I love to photograph Margerie Glacier. Besides having a wonderful glacier face (a mile wide and 300 feet high), Margerie is back dropped by an outstanding rack of mountains including the 12,000 foot Mt. Salisbury, the13,650 foot Mt. Adams and the 15,320 foot Mt Fairweather. If you ever wondered what it was like to go on a photo shoot with me read Nick Jans article in the September 2006 issue of Alaska Magazine starting on page 10. Nick accompanied me on a trip to Glacier Bay to ...
