King Crab crawls across the pebbly beach along Almaga Harbor. King crab season opens July 1 in the Juneau area. I caught this crab and decided to photograph it in the beautifully clear water along the beach. During the summer, I fish for king crabs with pots down to 300-400 feet. One would not expect to see a king crab along the shore as pictured here. Camera: Nikon F5, Lens: Nikkor 35-75mm f/2.8 polarized, Film: 35mm Fuji Velvia.-Mark Kelley

With wings akimbo, an immature bald eagle shifts gears from flight to a dive for a herring on the water's surface. The distinctive white head and tail feathers are not attained until five or more years of age. This photo illustrates the month of June in my 2003 Juneau Calendar. Camera: F5, Lens: Nikkor 300mm f/4, Film: 35mm Fuji Velvia-Mark Kelley

A kayaker enjoys the morning reflection of Mendenhall Glacier in Moose Lake in the Mendenhall Recreation Area in Juneau, Alaska. I shot this photo as a cover of the Juenau Convention and Visitors Bureau brochure. This photo illustrates the month of May in my new Juneau, Alaska Calendar for 2003. Camera: F5, Lens: Nikkor 35 to 75mm F/2.8, Film: 35mm Fuji Velvia-Mark Kelley

A pair of humpback whales lunge feed through a school of herring. Humpbacks surround a school of fish with a net of bubbles blown out of their blow hole. Once the school of fish are corralled by the stream of bubbles, the whales swim up through the school with their mouths wide open and swallow as many fish as possible. Camera: Nikon F5, Lens: 300mm f/4, Film: 35mm Fuji Velvia-Mark Kelley

Celebration 96 participants parade through downtown Juneau. Every two years, Sealaska Hertiage Foundation hosts thousands of Southeast Alaska natives for a long weekend of cultural celebration and dance. Dancing goes all day and night with the parade usually happening on Saturday. Camera: Nikon F5, Lens: 300mm f/4, Film: 35mm Fuji Velvia-Mark Kelley

An adult eagle watches over her two eaglets in a nest along the shore of Icy Strait. Most eaglets hatch during May and early June. This nest was built in a tree on a very steep hillside. By scrambling up the hillside, I was able to get camera level with the nest. Camera: Nikon F3, Lens: Nikkor 300mm F/4, Film: 35mm Fuji 50.-Mark Kelley
