October Snow, Juneau, Alaska – Image 2282

October Snow, Juneau, Alaska – Image 2282

The calendar tells me its mid-November but the warm temperatures and lack of a first snow makes me wonder if the calendar has it wrong. In 2000 our first snow came in early October. This photo was shot about 9 a.m. in the morning from the Douglas Island overlook of Juneau and illustrates the month of October in my 2003 Juneau calendar. Camera: Nikon F5, Lens: 35-75mm f/2.8 Nikkor (polarized), Film: 35mm Fuji Velvia.-Mark Kelley
Raven, Juneau, Alaska – Image 2281

Raven, Juneau, Alaska – Image 2281

A corporate client asked for a photo of a raven for their annual report. I did not have a great raven shot so I went looking. To my surprise, I found ravens difficult to photograph. They seem almost everywhere except when I needed to photograph one. I found a person who had a captive raven. The wild ravens would gather in the trees around the captive raven's mew, and I was able to get my shot. This photo illustrates the month of November in my 2003 Juneau Calendar. Camera: Nikon ...

Creek Street, Ketchikan, Alaska – Image 2280

Creek Street is probably one of the most photographed attractions in Ketchikan, if not all of Southeast Alaska. This shot is slightly different. I have shot hundreds of photos of Creek St., but this October day was the only time I have seen the buildings reflecting in the tidal inlet. What makes the difference is that this shoot was done at high tide during one of the highest tides of the year. This photo illustrates the month of November in my 2003 Southeast Alaska Calendar. Skiff Driver/ Gull Gove/ Icy Strait/ Southeast Alaska – Image 2279

This is one of my favorite photos. It is of my son, Gabe, on his first day of learning how to steer a skiff. He was eight years old. This photo can be found on page 46 of my fourth book, Juneau Protrait II. My most recent books always have a photo of my boys in them somewhere. Camera: Nikon F-4, Lens: 35-75mm f/2.8 Nikkor, Film; 35mm Fuji Velvia-Mark Kelley

Fly Fishing/ Float Plane/ Antler Lake/ Southeast Alaska – Image 2278

I shot this photo the same day as entry number #2272 on 9-4-02. The two shots are very different and convince me that in every shooting situation I should be able to come away with more than one keeper when the light and subject are right. Again, this is my school teacher friend Rich, who had a his summers off to fly around Southeast Alaska, wetting a fly. Once in awhile, I was lucky enough to go with him. Camera Nikon F/4, Lens: 300mmf/4 Nikkor, Film: Fuji 50-Mark Kelley

Ketchikan Waterfront, Southeast Alaska – Image 2277

A Lund skiff speeds out of a downtown Ketchikan harbor on its way to PennockIsland. I shot is photo in October many years ago. The day was totallyrain soaked, and I had not planned on taking my camera with me for a walkdowntown. But in the end, I grabbed my gear and was able to grab this shotin a ten-minute sun break between the all-day downpours. Camera: Nikon F5,Lens:80-200 f 2.8 Nikkor, Film: 35mm Fuji Velvia-Mark Kelley
