The cruiseship/summer season is almost over in Southeast Alaska. The community of Klawock on Prince of Wales Island is home to an important collection of totem poles collected from abandoned sites farther north on the islands of Southeast Alaska. The poles are displayed in a park overlooking the town and the former site of Alaska's first Salmon Cannery, built in 1878. I shot this narrow gauge train from a helicopter as it winds its way through the mountains outside Skagway, Alaska. The train climbs from sea level to 2,885 feet in 21 miles. My friend, Joe, and dog, Rosie, rest in a beautiful old growth glade in the spruce forest on Admirality Island National Momument.
