King Salmon Fishing, False Outer Point, Juneau, Alaska – Image 2256

With the Chilkat Mountains as a backdrop, Anglers fish through the sunset at False Outer Point at the end of Douglas Island. False Outer Point is probably the hottest sports king salmon fishing area in the Juneau from mid-May to early June. Camera: Nikon F5, Lens: Nikkor 80-200mm f/2.8, Film: 35mm Fuji Velvia.-Mark Kelley
Oystercatcher, Glacier Bay National Park, Alaska – Image 2255

Oystercatcher, Glacier Bay National Park, Alaska – Image 2255

The black oystercatcher is one of my favorite birds. In Glacier Bay, they nest at the edge of high tide line right on the beach. They are very interactive with anyone approaching their nesting area and go to great lengths to steer you away from their nests. This oystercatcher sits on her nest. I used this photo in my most recent book, Glacier Bay National Park: Alaska. Camera: Olympus OM-1, Lens: 300mm f/4.5, Film: 35mm Kodachrome 64.-Mark Kelley
Totem Pole, Klawock, Prince of Wales Island, Alaska – Image 2254

Totem Pole, Klawock, Prince of Wales Island, Alaska – Image 2254

The native community of Klawock has one of my favorite totem parks in all of Alaska. Klawock on Prince of Wales Island is a short ferry or plane ride from Ketchikan. This park features some of the most unusual poles in the state. Camera: Nikon F-4, Lens: Nikkor 300mm f/4, Film: 35mm Fuji Velvia.-Mark Kelley
Seal mother and pup, Johs Hopkins Inlet, Glacier Bay National Park, Alaska – Image 2253

Seal mother and pup, Johs Hopkins Inlet, Glacier Bay National Park, Alaska – Image 2253

Seal mother and pup rest on iceberg in Glacier Bay National Park. I shot this photo on my first trip into the park in 1981. I accompanied Joel Bennett on a video production. We spent four days drifting in the ice with the seals in May of 1981. I used this photo in my book, Glacier Bay National Park: Alaska. Camera: OM-1, Lens: 300mm F/4.5, Film: Kodachrome 64-Mark Kelley
Ice Cave, Nuggett Creek Glacier, Juneau, Alaska – Image 2252

Ice Cave, Nuggett Creek Glacier, Juneau, Alaska – Image 2252

This ice cave traveled back under the glacier about the length of a football field. This photo was shot looking back down toward the mouth of the cave. Althought uneerily beautiful, ice caves are extremely dangerous places. My friend is standing on ice that fell from the roof of the cave. Ice caves can and do collapse without any warning. Camera: Nikon F/4, Lens: Nikor 35-75mm f/2.8 zoom, Film: 35mm Fuji Velvia.-Mark Kelley
Shrine of Saint Therese, Juneau, Alaska – Image 2251

Shrine of Saint Therese, Juneau, Alaska – Image 2251

One of the trademarks of my photography is that I like to include people or wildlife in my scenics. I was at the Shrine, and this great sunset started happening. I was there by myself and thought the photo could use a person. I set my camera up on automatic timer and posed for my own photo. This photo illustates one of my 5x7 inch photo note cards which are blank inside (#941). Camera: Nikon F5, Lens: 35-75mm f/2.8 zoom, film: Fuji Velvia-Mark Kelley
