The much anticipated Berners Bay herring run happened late last week with the fish laying their eggs along the shore at Point Bridget. Birds by the bazillion showed up for this spring feast all weekend long. These surface-bound white-winged scoters certainly enjoined the feast. Oh What a Night! This weekend Juneau experienced an amazing show of northern lights. It all started Friday night and lasted through both Saturday and Sunday nights and into the wee hours of Monday morning. Each shoot started around 11PM and ended between 3-4AM. I am suffering from what we locally refer to as “a northern lights hangover” and it was well worth it. Thank you for visiting. We have been so blessed to have had a week of sunny and clear weather here in Juneau, Alaska. Of course this means that I am up before sunrise to look for my next photo. I had planned to shoot the setting full moon at 5:30 AM this morning so got up pretty early. Lo and behold, as I walked out into my living room there was the moon setting right through our picture windows. I quickly walked down to the beach to shoot this image of the moon above the Chilkat Mountains with the sea gulls conveniently crossing through my frame. Although it is very much spring weather at sea level, there is still a ton of snow at Eaglecrest. It is the area’s final weekend. Eaglecrest will be open this Thursday and closing for the season on Sunday. I shot this image of my son, Owen, tearing up the powder a couple of years ago. The image could have easily been shot this year as it has been a great snow year. On Saturday the area is bringing back the ever popular Slush Cup at 1:00 pm and spectators are encouraged.
