Cross Country Skiing, Spaulding Meadows – Image 2441

One of my favorite winter playgrounds is Spaulding Meadows out the road above Auke Bay. My friend, Laura, cruises the fresh snow with Mt McGinnis and Stroller White in the background. Sandhill Cranes, Fairbanks, Alaska – Image 2440

I have ranged far a field to bring you this photo of sandhill cranes at Creamer’s field in Fairbanks, Alaska. Creamer’s Field is an old Fairbank’s dairy farm that has been turned into a bird sanctuary for birds traveling north in the spring and south in the fall. The state plants the fields for the birds. In Southeast Alaska, the cranes pass through the Gustavus area on their annual migration. This photo is available as a print (print number P-140) with sizes and prices explained in my ...

Float plane, Juneau, Alaska – Image 2439

A couple inches of snow glazes this float plane along Juneau’s waterfront. The float plane dock is located between Aurora Harbor and the Juneau/Douglas bridge. This photo illustrates the month of March in my 2006 Juneau Alaska calendar. Camera: Nikon F/5, Lens: 80-200mm f/2.8 polarized, Film 35mm Velvia slide film.-Mark Kelley
Steller’s Jay, Juneau, Alaska – Image 2438

Steller’s Jay, Juneau, Alaska – Image 2438

I photographed this jay at my friend Nick’s house. He has a bird feeding regime that attracts all sorts of birds year round. This jay is waiting in a spruce tree for Nick to cover his deck handrails with sunflower seeds. Steller’s jays are some of the few birds that stay in the area during the winter. This photo is available as a print (print number P-135) with sizes and prices explained in my website store. Camera: Nikon F/5, Lens: 500mm f/4, Film 35mm Velvia slide film-Mark Kelley

Cover of my 2006 Southeast Alaska Calendar – Image 2437

I photographed this eagle in a spruce tree along the edge of Mendenhall Lake in late October. A stream on the west side of the lake supports a late fall salmon run which in turn brings in a half dozen to a dozen eagles each season. The spruce trees along the lake are not too tall and the eagles seem easier to approach this time of the year. This photo illustrates the cover of my 2006 Juneau Alaska Calendar. Mendenhall Glacier, Juneau, Alaska – Image 2436

Mendenhall Glacier, Juneau, Alaska – Image 2436

Fresh snows had just fallen the night before in the mountains of Juneau on this early November day. When I got to Mendenhall Lake, fog was covering most of it, obscuring my view of the glacier. I waited and waited hoping that the fog would lift and leave the glacier’s mirror reflection in the lake. The fog lifted and it was not very much longer that the ripples of the light wind ruined the reflection. This photo illustrates the cover of my 2006 Juneau Alaska Calendar and the month of ...
