The closing of the Eaglecrest Ski Area last weekend means I can now turn myattention to the water. This sailing photo reminds me of the approachingspring/summer boating season. The Alaska Folk Festival started this week and runs through Sunday.Throughout downtown Juneau, musicians jam the bars for all night jamsessions. This winter the lakes around Juneau have been frozen. Skating and crosscountry skiing has been superb. Long before Juneau got it's indoor ice rinkabout two years ago, the only place to play hockely was on the frozen lakes.The ice might not have been consistent but the views can not be beat. March is one the the biggest snow months for the Eaglecrest Ski Area. I domost of my ski shooting during this month because the light (sun) is finallyup high enough to cover most of the mountain. The low angle light of deepwinter only hits the tops of the mountains. This is a rare day atEaglecrest: a big dump of snow and sunshine. When it happens skiing orriding at Eaglecrest is heavenly.
