Bald Eagle on Iceberg-Tracy Arm, Alaska #2961

May 19, 2016

I have been to Tracy Arm-Fords Terror Wilderness more times than I can count or remember. I first visited the wilderness area in 1979 as a photographer for the Juneau Empire. I have tried to go back every year since then and often have been able to get in multiple trips per year. I love this place and almost always come home with a great photo. My favorite time of year is mid-May through June. It is early in the season and animals are more visible. The salmon have not returned yet; the eagles are hungry and hanging out on the icebergs waiting for whatever comes their way. These next three weeks is the absolute best time to photograph “iceberged” eagles. Once the salmon start running, the eagles will leave Tracy Arm for salmon streams. I almost always go to Tracy Arm on the “Adventure Bound”, captained by Steve Webber. Thanks Captain Steve and thanks for visiting – Camera: Nikon D800,  Lens: Nikkor 80-400mm F/4.5-5.6 digital capture ©Mark Kelley
