Oystercatcher, Glacier Bay National Park, Alaska – Image 2255

The black oystercatcher is one of my favorite birds. In Glacier Bay, they nest at the edge of high tide line right on the beach. They are very interactive with anyone approaching their nesting area and go to great lengths to steer you away from their nests. This oystercatcher sits on her nest.
