Kodiak, Alaska – Image 2406

Oct 1, 2013

The Holy Resurrection Russian Orthodox Church is the third to be built on this site in Kodiak. The original church, built in 1796, was the first Russian Orthodox Church built in North America and burned down. The Russian colonization of the kodiak Island archipelago began in the mid-1700’s. I shot this photo for a book published on the Alaska Ferry System that goes out to Kodiak and beyond. Camera: Nikon F4, Lens: 35-70mm f/2.8 Nikkor (polarized), Film: 35mm Velvia (35mm color slide film).-Mark Kelley
