Most marmots have brown fur. This is the first and only black marmot I have ever seen. This guy was in a very remote part of Glacier Bay National Park, and I was surprised how friendly he was. I would never expect to get this close to a wild animal. This photo illustrates the month of April in my 2004 Southeast Alaska Calendar and can be found in my book on Glacier Bay.
