“Lost in Alaska” – Photo Art Print P302

Last Friday, January 22, 2021, we experienced the first sunny day in Juneau in a really long time. I was bound and determined to take a photo good enough for a calendar picture. I headed out to the end of the road, about 40 miles north of downtown Juneau. The road ends in a parking lot for a boat launch along the shore of Echo Cove. I spent most of three hours checking out the shoreline, looking for just the right view of Lions Head Mountain. I settled on this view and started shooting. I took my eye out of my view finder and started softly cussing at myself for not having another person along with me to walk the beach, about half a mile away, to put the whole image into perspective. I settled back down into my view finder and wondered why I had not seen the tree stump on the beach before. As I squinted to see what was happening, my stump started to move. I had just conjured up an apparition to walk the exact line I needed someone to walk. The person disappeared as quickly as he appeared. Maybe the whole event lasted 20 seconds. I was dumbfounded; how could it be? I had been along the shore for hours and had not seen another person, and there were no cars in the parking lot. I folded up my tripod, headed home knowing I got the shot, wondering how it all works – Camera: #Nikon #D850, Lens: # Nikkor 70-400mm, Digital Capture, Tripod ©Mark Kelley
