View of Sitka at dusk from Harbor Mountain – Image 2029

Sometimes, I get lucky. The same evening I shot the previous photo of the sunset over Mt. Edgecumbe I shot this photo of downtown Sitka with the rapidly approaching storm clouds overtaking the dissappearing sunset. Sitka is a beautiful coastal fishing community on Baranof Island in Southeast Alaska facing the Gulf of Alaska and the Pacific Ocean. Sitka was once the capital of Russian America. On October 18, 1867, now celebrated as Alaska Day, Sitka was the site of the formal transfer of Alaska to the United States. I shot this photo on Velvia film, with a Nikon F4 camera, with a 20-35mm F/2.8 zoom lens.-Mark Kelley
