Swimming Alaska Style, Mendenhall Glacier, Juneau, Alaska – Image 2473

It looks like these young girls are extremely tough and are swimming in a pond created by the very cold waters from the melting Mendenhall Glacier. In fact, this pond is very shallow and is separated from the very cold Mendenhall Lake by a small strip of land. On the warm sunny days this pond becomes very warm and swim able. I know because I have swum in this pond on just such a day. This photo illustrates the month of June in my 2007 Juneau Alaska calendar and is a postcard in my new line of postcards released this year.
