Sunset, Auke Bay, Juneau, Alaska – Image 2691

The color in this photo is for real. I think a lot of viewers will think that I super-saturated the color in my computer…not true. This was one of the most spectacular sunsets that I have ever seen, and the color is faithful to my memory of the event. This brings up a problem that I have with shooting digital. Do not get me wrong…I love shooting digitally. But, for almost 25 years I shot color slides, and when I put the slides on the light table I could immediately see the color. The color in my digital shoots is never right when it first comes up on the computer, and I need to reconstruct the color from my memory. With slides I had an instant reference, now digitally the color is more subjective and open to my memory of the scene. This means every image I shoot has to have some adjustments, where as with slides I was done with the image when I shot it. A small price to pay for the pleasure of shooting digital. Enjoy the photo and thanks for visiting. I will be leading a small boat photo cruise in Glacier Bay National Park next year with Dolphin Charters (www.dolphincharters.com), July 6-12, 2011. Come join me for a week cruise in the bay exploring Alaska. This photo illustrates the month of October in my Juneau Alaska 2011 calendar.
