Spaulding Meadows Juneau, Alaska – Image 2754

The sunshine and fresh powder makes this photo. I love Eaglecrest, Juneau’s ski area, but in the deep winter the ski area is in shadow all the way through February. When the sun is out in the winter, I want to be in it. So I go to Spaulding Meadows which is one of the best places to find sun all winter long. Because it takes on average about two plus hours and a lot of work to get to the upper open meadows, Spaulding does not get a lot of use. After a fresh dump and a clear day, I usually can find fields of trackless snow all day long. This photo illustrates the month of January in my 2012 Southeast Alaska Calendar. Enjoy the photo and thanks for visiting. Camera body: Nikon F2, Lens: Nikkor 20-35mm , Velvia 50, digital scan© Mark Kelley
