Scidmore Bay, Glacier Bay National Park, Alaska – Image 2708

I was on a kayak trip up the West Arm in late May when I took this photo. Late May is an iffy time to be kayaking in the park. We were lucky this May to have clear blue skies for a week and the trees just beginning to leaf out. The shore line was bathed in the color of the early spring green. On the other hand, I was in the park at the same beach the next year in late May and there was three feet of snow on the beach–winter was still clutching the bay. I shot this photo at 6am in the morning. I was up early checking out the light while my friends all slept soundly in their tents. The light was gorgeous. I was about to wake someone up to use as a photo subject. Luckily someone had to pee and was willing to work with me on this kayak shot. This image is featured page 12 in my photo book on the park: “Glacier Bay National Park: Alaska.” Enjoy the photo and thanks for visiting. Once again as a reminder, I will be leading a small boat photo cruise in Glacier Bay National Park this coming summer with Dolphin Charters (www.dolphincharters.com), July 6-12, 2011. Come join me for a week-long cruise in the bay exploring Alaska. Have a great new year. Camera body: F5, Lens: Nikkor 20-35mm f/2.8 Film: 35mm Velvia, ASA 50, digitally scanned© Mark Kelley
