Saviko Park, Douglas, Alaska – Image 2646

Anyone who has lived in Juneau in the winter knows the Taku Winds can rock Douglas. This is a photo of my assistant trying to walk in the 60 to 70 mile per hour wind gusts in Saviko Park by the hockey rink. I shot this photo sitting in my car using the car as a wind block. The wind was blowing so hard that the snow and sand grit was blowing in my open driver’s side window and covering my lens. I had to move over to the passenger seat and shoot the image across the drivers seat’s open window to get away from the snow and grit. The yellow and red highlights of the fire hyrant added a wonderful touch of color to a very black and white photo. This photo illustrates the month of Janaury in my Juneau 2010 calendar. Enjoy the photo and thanks for visiting. Camera body: Nikon D700, Lens: Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8, Digital Capture, ISO 200 © Mark Kelley
