Rainbow Boat, Cross Sound, Alaska – Image 2603

I am repeating this photo because I was preparing it for a recent contest entry. Upon revisiting the photo, I realized how much I like this amazing moment. It was raining so hard for so long the world was soaked. I was in a skiff and had thrown my cameras in a Halliburton case in the bottom of the boat. The cameras were dry, but I had no chance to use them in the relentless day-long downpour. Then all of the sudden the skies parted for about ten minutes and the rainbow splashed across the sky. I shot it, it disappeared, the rain came back, and I did not shoot another image the rest of the day. The morale of the story: always carry your camera. This photo can be found on page 17 in my book, Alaska: A Photographic Excursion. Nikon F5, Lens: 20-35mm f/2.8 Nikkor, exposure setting unknown, Fuji Velvia slide film-Mark Kelley
