There are about two weeks left in the cruise ship tourism season in Southeast Alaska. Everything is is slowing up with the official end of the season on September 28. This photo is a quintessential tourism image in Alaska. It features, the Mendenhall Glacier, the Mendenhall River, fireweed and a great mountain vista as the backdrop. Shot in early August in 2009 the rich greens and splash of the red fireweed gives a warmth to the image that makes this place very friendly and inviting. This photo was shot from a bridge crossing the river on one of Juneau most traveled roads. This photo illustrates the month of August in my Southeast Alaska 2011 calendar. Enjoy the photo and thanks for visiting. Camera body: Nikon D700, Lens: Nikkor 35-70mm, ISO 200, tripod, polarized© Mark Kelley
