Photo Point, Mendenhall Glacier, Alaska – Image 2742

The cruise ship season officially ended September 24 with the last ship, Century, leaving town at 8:30pm. The counterpoint to last week’s photo is this photo of the lone person checking out the glacier from photo point. Even on the most busy days there are times during the day that the walkways around the glacier visitors center can almost be deserted even on a 3,000 to 4,000 visitor day. The tourists visiting the glacier come in waves and most of them are back at the ship for dinner by 7pm. In the height of the summer if I pick my times, I can photograph an almost empty photo point even on a five cruise ship day. I just have to pick the right times between the ebb and flow of the tourist tide. The image illustrates the month of July in my 2012 Southeast Alaska Calendar. Enjoy the photo and thanks for visiting. Camera body: Nikon D700, Lens: Nikkor 16-35mm f/4, Digital Capture, ISO 200, polarized © Mark Kelley
