Mountain Goat, Glacier Bay National Park, Alaska – Image 2220

I started photographing this goat from a boat. It was high on the cliffs at Gloomy Knob. I was photographing the animal with a 300mm lens, when it started to scramble down towards us. By the time the goat was finished strolling down to us, I was using a 80mm lens. Wildlife encounters are wonderful and often surprising. The photo was taken with an F-5 camera body and an 80-200mm F/2.8 zoom lens on Fuji Velvia slide film. This image illustrates the month of October in my 2002 Southeast Alaska Calendar and can be found on page 63 in my book on Glacier Bay.-Mark Kelley
