Mendenhall Glacier, Juneau, Alaska – Image 2852

Oct 1, 2013 | 0 comments

This is my friend, Dave Haas, horsing around in front of the face of the Mendenhall Glacier. I was on an assigned shoot for Bradley-Reid, the State of Alaska’s advertising agency, to promote winter tourism. I wanted to show the scale of the glacier and just how accessible it is. In the winter it is about a half hour walk across the frozen lake to the front of the glacier from the visitor center’s parking lot. The glacier ice is much bluer (prettier) in the winter than in the summer, and I don’t really know why. To take this photo I hiked up the hill in front of the glacier and shot it showing 6-foot tall Dave as a mere speck. The image illustrates the month of March in my Juneau 2014 Calendar. Thank you for visiting. Camera body:D700, Lens:Nikkor 16-35mm, ISO 100 , polarized, Digital Capture© Mark Kelley
