Killer Whales, Icy Strait, Alaska – Image 2639

I shot this photo from an Allen Marine catamaran piloted by my friend, Jim Collins. Jim is a wildlife junkie and loves driving boats. Certain captains know how to position a boat for the best photo, and Jim has this ability better than anyone else I know. It is like he is looking through my camera and lens. I credit Jim for getting me this photo of this small family group of killer whales swimming past our stopped boat. This image illustrates the month of February in my 2010 Southeast Alaska Calendar. Enjoy the photo and thanks for visiting.Camera body: Nikon D700, Lens: Nikkor 80-400 f/4.5-56, Digital Capture© Mark Kelley
