Two large adult killer whales or orcas swim up Lynn Canal just north of Juneau. Killer whales are really the largest member of the dolphin family and our the Apex predator of the ocean. In long-ago whaling days, whalers watched them kill whales and referred to them as “killer of whales.” Over time the name got shortened to killer whales.
