Kayaks paddle the lake in front of the Mendenhall Glacier. The glacier is an incredible recreational opportunity for the locals and tourists alike. I shot this photo of my son, Owen, and our friend, Cris, in the kayak from the rock face to looker’s left of the glacier. The rock face allowed for a steady placement of my tripod and a high vantage point to separate the kayakers and glacier. Often when shooting kayakers from another kayak (or water level), the horizon line runs right through the kayakers’ heads. I am always trying to find a higher perspective to get the heads and horizon line to separate. It is critically important to get good head separation from the background. The image illustrates the month of May in my 2012 Juneau Alaska Calendar. Enjoy the photo and thanks for visiting.
