Hoary marmots are related to woodchucks of the lower 48. This photo was taken up on the Mt Roberts Trail where the marmots are plentiful and friendly. This trail which is close to the Mt Roberts Tram gets plenty of human traffic. Marmots are known for their loud and high pitched whistles which are distinctive in the high country around Juneau.
