Glacier Bear, Glacier Bay National Park, Alaska – Image 2381

Glacier bears are black bears with a genetic variation that gives their fur the frosty sheen of ice and clouds. These bears are very rare and only live in the area of northern Southeast Alaska from Juneau to Yakutat. I have found the largest concentration of glacier bears in Glacier Bay National Park. This photo illustrates the month of June in my 2005 Southeast Alaska Calendar. Camera: Nikon F5, Lens: 500mm f/4 Nikkor, Film: 35mm Fuji Velvia (35mm color slide film).-Mark Kelley
