Gilkey Glacier, Juneau Icefield, Alaska – Image 2785

Oct 1, 2013 | 0 comments

I jumped on a helicopter for a glacier trek with NorthStar Trekking which is a company specializing in taking people to the glaciers surrounding Juneau. Once the helicopter has landed on the glacier, their clients go on either a one, two or three hour guided treks across the ice. We went to the Gilke Glacier and found this pond of melted glacier water on top of the ice. What I love about this photo is the rock. The rock looks like it’s floating but actually the pond is only inches deep. The rock is sitting on the ice. The image illustrates the month of May in my Juneau Alaska 2013 Calendar. Enjoy and the photo and thanks for visiting. Camera body: D700, Lens: Nikkor 16-35mm f/4/ Digital capture/ ISO 200/ polarized © Mark Kelley
