Fireweed, Mendenhall Glacier, Alaska – Image 2626

It is the height of the fireweed season in Juneau. It has been incredible summer filled with more sunshine than rain and record setting temperatures. So far every day in the the month of July has been sunny (as of 7-14). This fireweed was shot along the airport dike trail several years ago. This year, I went back to reshoot the location only to find that the airport crew had cut this patch of fireweed for some unexplained reason. The lesson to be learned… work the great location while you are there and do not wait for another opportunity because that second opportunity might never happen again for reasons and circumstances never imagined. This image illustrates the month of July in my 2010 Juneau Alaska Calendar. Enjoy the photo and thanks for visiting. Nikon F5, 35-70mm Nikkor, polarized, Fuji Velvia 35mm slide film-Mark Kelley
