This cover is my fifth cover for Alaska Magazine over the years. I shotthis photo of my friend, Joe, in Lituya Bay. Southeast Alaska had a week of clear warm weather with great northern lights in early November of 1998. Towards the end of the week, I had thisidea of getting northern lights over Mt. Fairweather in Glacier Bay. Thepilot dropped us off in Lituya Bay on the outside coast, and I told him tocome back and get us before the weather turned. I had one clear evening andmorning before the weather turned, and the area was inundated by winterstorms. In that 24 hour period I shot this magazine cover and five photosfor my Glacier Bay book.
