We have had an extremely dry, sunny and hot summer. The fireweed which isusually peeking this week has already gone to seed two weeks ago. I shotthis photo of the dwarf fireweed at the swimming pond by the MendenhallGlacier. This pond is closed off from the larger Mendenhall Lake and warmsto a very comfortable swimming temperature. This photo illustrates themonth of August in my Juneau 2005 Calendar. Camera: Nikon F5, Lens: 20-35mmf/2.8 Nikkor, polarized, Film: 35mm Fuji Velvia (35mm color slide film).-Mark Kelley
