Dog mushing, Mendenhall Glacier, Alaska – Image 2630

The most expensive and outrageous shore excursion available off the cruiseships visiting Juneau is the helicopter flight up to the Juneau Icefield to go dog mushing. Most people have never flown in a helicopter, never seen a glacier, never walked on a glacier and never driven a dog sled. Well on this excursion you get to do all four … how cool is that? I went to photograph the TEMSCO dog sled tour on the upper reaches of the Mendenhall Glacier. The company let me use a snow machine for a day to track the mushing activities across the glacier. It was a lot of fun and when I am enjoying my shoot the images just keep coming. Photo lesson to myself … have fun and the images will follow. This image illustrates the month of May in my 2010 Southeast Alaska Calendar. Enjoy the photo and thanks for visiting.Nikon F5, Nikor 80-400mm f/3.5-5.6 lens, polarized, Fuji Velvia 35mm film -Mark Kelley
