As a photographer who works by himself, I really find it helpful to have someone take a look at my images. I really enjoy a second opinion. Last summer, Alaska Magazine hired Michael Dinneen as their photo editor, and his photographic style and judgement is revolutionizing the magazine. Michael is a good shooter and started his career as a staff photographer with the daily newspaper, the Anchorage Times (now out of business). If you have not looked at Alaska Magazine in a while, check it out. Michael had sent out a request for images of small ship or boat cruising in Alaska. I emailed him this image along with a couple of others. Any ways, Michael emailed back and said, ” Absolutely magical image by the way.” That sounded encouraging, but had not expected the cover. Over the years I have had five covers for Alaska Magazine with the first one being in 1978 while I still was a photojournalism student at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. After his comment, I took another look at the photo and decided I should run it in my calendar. The horizontal version will appear in the 2014 Southeast Alaska Calendar. Thanks to Michael for helping me find the value in this image. Thank you for visiting. Camera body: D700, Lens: Nikkor 16-35mm f/4 /digital capture/ISO 400© Mark Kelley
