Brown Bear, Glacier Bay National Park, Alaska – Image 2219

A brown bear (Ursus Arctos) eats spring sedges along the beach at Blue Mouse Cove at Glacier Bay National Park. This bear displays the grizzly’s characteristic shoulder hump, composed of muscle and fat, the round face, and long, curved claws. The brown bear’s fur ranges in color from blonde, red and mocha to black. This bear photograph is available as the June image in my 2002 calendar of Southeast Alaska, on page 66 of my book Glacier Bay National Park, Alaska, and on a 5″by 7″ notecard.-Mark Kelley
