Black-tailed Deer, Pack Creek, Admiralty Island, AK#3420

Oct 29, 2021

I love photographing wildlife at the Pack Creek Bear Viewing Area on Admiralty Island, which is just a short 30-minute float plane ride from Juneau, Alaska. A Sitka black-tailed deer walks along the lush wetlands at the edge of the high tideline. I took this image standing on the viewing sandspit as the deer walked by undisturbed about 50 feet away. Getting the perfect reflection in the water was a bonus. The area is closed to hunting. The up-close viewing of wildlife, especially coastal brown bears, makes this place famous. Although these are wild animals, they are habituated to human presence and often get really close to human visitors. This image illustrates the month of August in my 2022 Juneau Alaska Calendar. Thank you for visiting and for the gift of your time. Enjoy – Camera: #Nikon #D850, Lens: # Nikkor 80-400mm, Digital Capture, Hand-Held, ©Mark Kelley
