Sleeping while waiting for Bears, Pack Creek…Image 2885

Aug 20, 2014

I just spent ten days with Captain Ronn on the “Delphinus” managed by Dolphin Charters. We started in Wrangell and photographed Shakes Glacier on the Stikine River, the bears at Anan, the whales in Fredrick Sound, the Dawes Glacier in Endicott Arm, and bears at Pack Creek before ending the trip in Juneau on the 19th. I took this photo last year at Pack Creek. The job of a wildlife photographer is waiting for something to happen.  We spent most of a day at the Pack Creek spit waiting for bears.  It was one of only few times I can remember getting skunked while at Pack Creek. Wildlife photography is all about timing and luck.  There are those days where timing and luck don’t happen. Successful wildlife photographers have to be ever sooooo patient and come back again, and again, and again for that perfect shot.  The good news is that it was not raining and everyone got a good rest. Next summer, I will be doing a photo workshop on the “Delphinus” in Glacier Bay National Park from July 2-10, 2015.  To join me, go to dolphincharters.com and sign up. Thank you for visiting this site! Shot on Nikon D-800, Nikkor 70-200mm f/4, digital capture
