The tufted puffin is a relatively abundant medium-sized pelagic seabird found in the North Pacific Ocean. I was getting full frame, fun head shots of this bird standing on the seaside cliffs on Saint Paul of the Pribilof Islands. The long tufts of feathers on their head are the trademark of these clown-faced birds. These tufts are usually well-coiffed and lie snugly along the head and down the neck of the puffin, just like a 1950’s New York City greaser. This puffin’s tufts were all akimbo due to the howling wind blowing up the cliffs. This image illustrates the month of March in my 2019 Alaska Calendar.
