Sleeping Black Bear, Anan Creek, Tongass National Forest, Near Wrangell, Alaska …Image # 2890

I love to nap and have been accused of napping almost everywhere at any time. Yet, this plump black bear napping in a small spruce seems improbable even to me. He was snoring pretty loud and when he exhaled his lips flapped in the breeze. I have been to Anan Creek every year for the past seven years and have probably spent close to 25 days photographing the area.  Some question my sanity as I keep returning to the same place year after year. It is the opportunity to be surrounded by intense concentrations of wildlife (mostly bears) that keep me coming back. Photography is about timing, luck and opportunity. The wildlife photography opportunity per hour of photography at Anan is unlike anywhere else in Alaska. This photo illustrates the month of October in my 2015 Southeast Alaska Calendar.
